After a season where the Bison student body saw glimpses of a new Howard University Men's Basketball team, this year the team looks to outdo their results from last season.

With a non-conference schedule that includes teams like Kansas, Kansas State and nearby rival, Georgetown, the Bison will need all the assets they have to improve upon the 6-24 record from last season.

With five incoming freshman including, Eleanor Roosevelt High School's Prince Okoroh, who headlined the 38th annual Capital Classic and won Most Valuable Player honors and with two transfers, Glen Andrews from Tulsa and Tre Lee from Coastal Carolina, that will make seven new players that are expected to make a contribution to the team this year.

Returning is junior, Calvin Thompson who was sidelined by injuries last season, looking to add that veteran leadership and poise the Bison were lacking at the point guard position last year.

Redshirt Freshman, Theodore Boyomo, who was also sidelined by a season ending injury last year during preseason play, will return as well.

Looking at this offseason head coach, Kevin Nickelberry did an excellent job recruiting in the area. With transfers and players returning from injury, this has shaped up to be a Top 40 recruiting class and should prove to be very valuable as the season begins.

As the Women's basketball team looks to improve with returning talent, the men have a mixture of veteran players and young talent to fuel this season.

During our sports preview back in August Athletic Director Perkins said the University would have a lot to look forward to this year.

"The recruiting class is exceptional," said Perkins. "But it depends on how fast they gel. Our upperclassmen have accepted them, but I can say we are not going to finish in last place in the MEAC tournament."
