The Lady Bison defeat the UMES Hawks 62-49 increasing their winning streak to eight and their home win record to 10-1.

Ending the 2011-12 season on a high note, the Lady Bison basketball team (21-7, 13-2 MEAC) kept the pace for a winning season after defeating the University of Maryland Eastern-Shore Lady Hawks (9-16, 6-7 MEAC) 62-49.

Graduating senior guards, Zykia Brown and India Bradford both lit up "The Burr" for the last time in their collegiate career. Brown ended the night with 10 points and

Bradford had a clean three-point shot early in the first half.

"I think we came out and played with a lot of intensity from the beginning," said Bradford. "We had to pick it up defensively in some parts of the game, but we got ourselves back together and got the W."

Both teams worked hard defensively, but the Lady Hawks were no match for the Lady Bison as they managed to pull away from tied scores throughout the game.

"I think that we started off good. We lacked defensive wise in the first half, but then we picked it up and were able to finish it out," said Brown. "Overall I think we had a pretty good game today. We just need to improve on some things."

With a record of 21 wins, now10-1 wins on the home court and being third in the MEAC, the Lady Bison came rolling out the gate ready to continue their winning season. As the game commenced, three-pointers became the shot of the night. Junior guard, Tamoria Holmes made the first three of the game finishing with 22 points and five assists for the night in 39 minutes of play. Junior forward, Saadia Doyle scored 17 points and had nine rebounds. Junior center, Nicole Deterville had a strong presence in the paint as she garnered five rebounds.

"We've seen each other grow as a team and individuals and we actually have very high expectations with this group this year," said Brown.  "I am not surprised that we got this many wins. I am proud of all of us for stepping up to the plate and getting it done."

Despite starting off "sluggish" assistant coach, Brian Johnson said the Lady Bison just wanted to win for their seniors.

"We wanted to keep a pretty clean home record and we only lost one game here all this year, so that's something we were striving for so we want to finish up the season strong and get ready for the MEAC tournament," Johnson said.

"We are just going to work, can't have bad shooting performances, but if we do we have to play defense. We know defense carries us and that was what helped us last year to make our run to the championship game so we are just trying to build on that," said Coach Johnson about going to MEAC tournament.

Brown agreed and said, "we plan on taking it all the way in playing in the NCAA tournament."

The next and final matchup of the season for the Lady Bison is at Delaware State against the Lady Hornets on February 25. The MEAC tournament will commence March 5-10.
