After falling short last year to the North Carolina A&T Aggies, the Bison pull out a win against the team at this Saturday's Homecoming Game.

At a new and improved pace, the Howard University Bison beat the North Carolina A&T Aggies to seal a rare homecoming victory. An overtime score of 35-28 leave the Bison at 4-4 for the season, with a winning record of 3-2 in conference play.

This win has proved to be great for the university and surrounding community.

"It's a huge win for the community," said head coach Gary Harrell. "Our goal is to finish strong."

The Bison looked like the team we saw against Savannah State and Florida A&M, showing intensity throughout the entire game.

The Bison jumped out to a 13-point lead in the first half with two field goals from sophomore kicker, Parker Munoz, from 32 and 33 yards.

A touchdown came with 3 minutes and 40 seconds left in the half on a pass from freshman quarterback, Greg McGhee to senior wide receiver, Willie Carter for a 6-yard touchdown. The first half was all Bison, and easily out gained the Aggies, offensively giving the fans in the stadium a great feeling going into the second half.

But things took a turn in the last half of the game. The Aggies turned around and scored 28 points and took the lead in the fourth quarter, which left the people in the stands uneasy about a positive outcome. Each team took a turn at scoring starting with Howard.

Senior wide receiver, Brandon Drayton caught a 16-yard pass from McGhee for a touchdown, and another connection from McGhee to Carter for the 2-point conversion, giving the Bison a 21-14 lead.

Aggie senior running back, Mike Mayhew--bottled up by the Bison defense throughout the game-- broke loose and scored a 66-yard touchdown tying the game at 21.

With the Greene stadium being shocked by Mayhew's huge run, the Bison had to strike back to restore peace to the game. Freshman running back, Aquanius Freeman delivered that necessary punch with a return for a touchdown on the Aggies' next kickoff.

After another Aggie touchdown, the game would go into overtime.

The Bison had the first possession of the overtime period and scored a touchdown, which put pressure on the Aggie offense to do the same. The Bison defense kept the entire stadium sitting on the edge of their seats. On fourth down from the Howard 40-yard line, Aggie quarterback, Lewis Kindle, with no open man, scrambled to get into the end zone and was stopped by senior defensive lineman, Sackie Kerkulah sealing the Howard victory.

Kerkulah has been having a great season, along with all the other players on the defensive line.

"This is the best defensive line HU has seen in years, and the best in the FCS," said junior linebacker, Keith Pough.

Throughout the game, the Bison only had one turnover in the game. This also proved to be a very efficient game for quarterback Greg McGhee, with 242 yards on 21 of 35 and two touchdowns, with no interceptions or fumbles.

Next up on the Bison Road to Redemption will be South Carolina State on Oct. 29 at Greene Stadium.
