Howard Athletics' Senior Associate Athletic Director and  Senior Woman Administrator, Shelley Davis will start her appointment as a member of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Issues Committee as of Sept. 1. Davis will hold the position for the next four years.

"It means a lot to be appointed to a national committee within the NCAA," Davis said.  "It's a huge honor and also a huge responsibility."

Davis, made it through the NCAA selection process, proving that she is capable of joining the NCAA committee. She is no stranger to serving as a committee member. Davis currently serves as a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators Nominating Committee and previously served as a NCAA Division I Championships and Sport Management Cabinet.

When selecting members for NCAA committees, the MEAC informs athletic administrators within the conference of committee openings. If the MEAC has multiple administrators within the conference that would like to be appointed to the same position, then a committee within the MEAC will select a representative to go forth to the NCAA level. From there, a committee within the NCAA looks over all the applicants from the different conferences and then decides on the most qualified applicants. For this particular committee, the NCAA chose Davis.

"The appointment was voted on and so to be chosen out of, I'm sure, a number of outstanding candidates is an honor," she said.

Davis started her athletics career holding positions in sports medicine at Virginia Union University and North Carolina A&T State University prior to making her transition into athletics administration.

Davis joined the Bison administration on July 5, 2011 as senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator where she holds the duties of overseeing the internal operations of the Athletic Department.

"Because I represent an HBCU in the MEAC, it's very special to me. I can represent our interest on the committee and make sure that we have a voice whenever we speak about issues related to women's basketball," said Davis . "I want to make sure that we have a voice and that our interests are represented."
