Two things remained the same for the Bison as Howard (4-18, 1-7 in the MEAC) fell to the Savannah State Tigers 52-42 on Saturday night at Burr Gymnasium. The men’s basketball team suffered their fourth consecutive loss in a 63-56 effort against Coppin State Saturday at Burr Gymnasium. Michael Murray was one of four Eagles players scoring in double-digits, leading the game with 16 points. The win allowed Coppin State (6-22, 3-10 Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference) to move ahead of Howard (6-22, 3-11 Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference) in the conference rankings.

Marc Harrison was named the new head coach of the men’s and women’s track and field program on February 11, taking over for former coach Curtis Pittman. Harrison, who also handles cross country head coaching duties, brings experience as an administrator, coaching track and field, and even football in the past 20 years.

Saturday’s football game against Delaware State University marked the last game of the 2012 season. The Bison finished in 2nd place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with a 7-4 overall season and a 6-2 conference high. For student athletic trainers Zane Cribbs and Chelsi Davis this has been one of the best seasons for Howard football and, because they are both graduating seniors, this will be their last.

In the second quarter, senior defensive back DeCarlos Knight left the game after being tackled by the Rattlers on the 10-yard line. Junior wide receiver Brandon Flanagan and his teammates rallied for a win in Knight’s honor after the play. “We just knew we had to do something for DeCarlos, we just had to make a play right then and there,” Flanagan said.

Northeast D.C. native, Dechara Hargrove, is a senior at Dunbar High School. She plays for the high school's volleyball that finished with a record of 6-6. Last year, the team had a rough season having a record of 0-14. Hargrove, who is a left-handed back row player, worked hard her senior year to get the team back in good standing making their way to the first round of the playoffs.

With success on and off the track, cross-county star, Soloman Kassahun has stirred up a new buzz at Cardozo High School. In Ethiopia, Kassahun's home country, running was his favorite hobby. With support from his parents, Kassahun decided to do what he felt he knew how to do best- run.

Last Saturday, Howard University Bison and Norfolk State Spartans battled for their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win amidst a crowded stadium full of green, yellow, blue and white. Even though the Bison football team came up short with a final score of 23-9, senior wide receiver, Brandon Drayton, put on a crowd-pleasing performance.
