Tamara Satcher has no regrets leaving her hometown O'ahu, Hawaii for the Washington, D.C. lifestyle or for separating from her twin sister Sarah to find a new world of individuality here at Howard University.

"My experience here has made such an impact on my life," said Satcher, a psychology major graduating Cum laude. "Before coming to Howard, my sister and I looked forward to entering in to separate universities."

Satcher says being separated from her sister has helped them both grow, and they are still close today.

"We talked about wanting to be seen differently and individually because everyone in my family always referred to us as the twins," Satcher said.

With a GPA of 3.26, Satcher believes she made the right choice in choosing her major and design minor. In Satcher's opinion, psychology is used in every aspect of life.

"It helps you to understand people and how they think, because everyone is different," she said.

Satcher says she has learned to trust herself more and has gained confidence as a woman. The best thing she will take from her Howard experience, aside from a Howard education, are the cherished friendships and the relationships she has built during her time here.

"I am still very close with three of my dearest friends that I met freshman year," she said. "I met one of my friends on the same day I moved into Meridian Hall freshman year. We all lived on the second floor of Meridian, and we bonded."

Satcher says she and her friends should have no problem staying in touch.

"We all go out and do things in the city all the time. I think after graduation, because we have so many social media outlets, we will still keep in contact with each other," she said.

For Satcher, the good memories she's had at Howard outweigh the frustrating moments.

"I haven't had too many bad memories except the typical ‘A' building frustration, and College of Arts and Science advisors always sending you to your department advisors, it just seemed to me like they never wanted to help you until you were about to graduate," she said.

Satcher recalls the helpfulness of her psychology advisors and the willingness of some of her professors to teach her. These are things she considers her best memories of Howard.

She has been involved in various campus activities, showing her school spirit regardless of academic pressure. She has been a part of The Mecca Mob and The National Council of Negro Women.

Satcher explained that even though most of her summers were spent working back at home in Hawaii, she has no plans of returning anytime soon. She has received calls for marketing jobs in D.C.

"I guess I'm getting emotional thinking about graduation, but the first thing I think about when I wake up is finding a job," Satcher said. "Looking at graduation from a family aspect it's becoming more apparent to me. I will be the first person from the second generation, on my mom's side of the family, to graduate with a bachelor's degree. I feel like I have accomplished something."

Satcher says she would encourage others to attend Howard and if given the opportunity, she would choose the university again.

"Not only do you learn the things that you need to succeed," she said. "You learn how to survive in the future and you learn about your past."
