WHUR Radio along with Dimensions Healthcare System, Capitol Area Foodbank, Giant, Howard University and Verizon will be sponsoring a food drive entitled Food 2 Feed.
On Thursday, Nov. 17, WHUR will be stationed at The Old Post Office Pavilion located on 12th & Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will be accepting non-perishable food item donations. Examples of non-perishable food items are canned goods, packages of pasta and rice.
If individuals are unable to stop by during these hours, please feel free to make monetary donations online by visiting www.food2feed.org. Donations can vary in amount. 100 percent of the proceeds collected will be used to purchase $50 Giant gift cards. Both the non-perishable food item donations and the gift cards will be donated to Capitol Area Food Bank, who will then distribute to families throughout the D.C. area. Over $25,000 was collected in the 2010 food drive, which covered the cost of over 500 Giant gift cards. During this season of thanks, it is important to remember others, by sharing the gift of food with others.
Hosted just one week before the beloved Thanksgiving, WHUR's Food 2 Feed drive hopes to rally an unprecedented amount of support in its efforts to make Thanksgiving 2011 one to remember.
"We really depend on the support of our listeners," said Renee Nash, the director of News and Public Affairs at WHUR.
