This year there will a new addition to the HU shuttle route, with two shuttle's running to University Town Center, student apartments that hundreds of Howard students now call home.

Student leaders proposed the idea of a shuttle between UTC and Campus," says Clifford Smith, Director of Parking and Shuttle Operations. "We then created a task force consisting of student leaders and officials at UTC to determine feasibility of this shuttle service. UTC management offered to share the cost with the University."

The purpose of this new service is to provide a more cost efficient way for students to travel between the main campus and UTC. The shuttle will run Monday-Friday beginning Monday, August 22. Service will start at 7 a.m. and run until 11:30 a.m., then start up again at 7:30 p.m. until midnight running every 30 minutes.

"It's expensive to run a shuttle, we had two options--run one shuttle all day or two that come at the most important time of day," HUSA President Brandon Harris said.

"If we see there's a definite need to move the shuttle to 5p.m. we will do it."

On its route the shuttle will make one stop on campus at the A-Building, where students can de-board and head to class. Students will also be able to track the shuttle on their phones by dialing 41411 and entering hushuttle22

Although there is no weekend service for this route, it will allow students to make it to and from class on time and in one piece.

"Our main goal is safety and to make sure students get to class," says Harris. "It also makes it easier for students who live off campus to be involved."

If this new route proves to be a benefit and runs smoothly, it could be here to stay. Currently it's apart of a one-year program with UTC and will be evaluated for continuation next year.
