Miss Evers' Boys opened last night in Ira Aldridge Theater. A sold out crowd was eager to support the theater arts department. The cast includes theater students as well as Eric Humphries, a University of Maryland trained actor.
The acting was phenomenal; it was evident that the actors were invested in putting their best foot forward while portraying their respective characters.
With such a heavy back-story, the comical moments were needed, and every character had their share. Junior acting major Mary Miller brought to life the character of Eunice Evers, a nurse caring for the men in the Tuskegee Study.
The one criticism I have is of the audience. While some things were meant to be funny, a knee slapping over the top laugh was a bit much. It actually took away from some of the more serious moments in the production. Overall, Miss Evers' Boys is a must see. It will continue to run through Saturday Oct. 9.
Student tickets are $5 with an identification card. To purchase tickets visit the Ira Aldridge Theater box office.
