If you've ever been to the all-American, southern cuisine restaurant in Hyattsville, Maryland, The Carolina Kitchen Bar and Grill, then you may be familiar with their famous greeting "Welcome, welcome, welcome." If you haven't been this semester, you may be "surprised, surprised, surprised" by the restaurants price-change to their Monday College Nights specials.

Students used to be able to get any of the restaurants Home-Styled meals only, which included BBQ- beef short ribs, jerk chicken with rice, fried-whiting and a few other selections with 2 side "fixins", cornbread and a drink for about $7.95.

Now, students are offered 25% off on all Home-Style Meals and Ma Pearl Specials menu price. Ma Pearl Specials offer slightly costlier meals including creole grilled salmon, crab cakes and superior lobster.

Alumnus Martell Bivins, and current "Carolina Kitchen" bartender, says the price-change is still very much affordable. "The price change offers students a wider- range of food options. Any student who's ever been to Carolina's Kitchen knows it's worth it."

It will take some time for students, like senior legal communications major Anique Hameed, to get adjusted to the new price, "I'm a big believer in not fixing things that aren't broken, however, I must admit that Carolina's Kitchen's macaroni alone makes the price-change tolerable," Hameed said.

"I think it was a bad business decision. A lot of students saved $7 just for their Monday specials," said Lamar Smith, junior television production major. "I personally feel displeased as I'm a loyal customer."

The College Night special is valid only on Monday nights starting at 6pm-close. Students must show their ID.
