A new tradition began last Sunday in Cramton Auditorium as students of the class of 2012 gathered for a Senior Sunday chapel service. Inspired by Bernard Richardson, the Dean of Chapel, the program was intended to strengthen the unity of the graduating class before they leave for various missions post graduation.

Seniors were heavily involved in the service, reading scriptures that addressed perseverance and faithfulness to the Lord and his mission. The Senior Ensemble, which was compromised of seniors from the on-campus choirs, joined with the Chapel Choir singing "We've Come This Far by Faith" and "Grateful".

Senior telecommunications major Michael Hamilton said, "The speakers were very moving and uplifting. It is motivating to hear our peers speak about their experiences as we get ready to go on the same journey. They are at the same stage we are at, so it's easy to relate to them."

Among the list of senior speakers was HUSA President Brandon Harris who spoke briefly on the importance of unity and reviving the Howard legacy. Despite various struggles, Harris reminded the audience that without a trial, there is no triumph and without a test, there is no testimony.

"[This service] was a profound spiritual experience. The commonality of faith has kept us sustained through our four years here," Harris said.

Amber Meeks, Marcus Ware, Daniel Cokes and Dontaleisha Smith also spoke during the Senior Expressions portion of the service. President Sidney Ribeau declared this service his proudest moment at the University since his arrival four years ago.

Dawan Parker, a senior history major, said, "The message today was clear. Everyone has a storm, but persevering through it will keep us strong. This service gave a new sense of hope and inspiration to everyone."
