More changes have come to popular student dining facility, The PunchOut, with the replacement of Chik-Fil-A and Energize Smoothies.

Last year Magic made his mark with Magic Johnson's Sub Connection and this year the southern staple Chick-Fil-A got the boot and has been replaced by WOW Café & Wingery.   Their motto: "New-Orleans Inspired and Globally Desired," speaks to their cajun style chicken and cuisine.

Jennifer Graham, retail manager for The PunchOut, says she doesn't know why Chik-Fil-A was replaced, but students seemed to like what the new wingery had to offer.

"I have no idea why Chick-Fil-A was replaced," Graham said. "We did a free taste test at the beginning of the year and also passed around a survey about which place students would prefer—the majority of students picked WOW."

WOW will offer a wide variety of options—wings, burgers, sandwiches and other grilled creations. Some students prefer Chick-Fil–A over WOW, but are ready to try something new.

"I like Chick Fil-A because if there was nothing else to eat and I didn't want McDonalds, or the café food I knew I could always go to Chick-fil-A," said Jaeron Mann, a junior broadcast journalism major "And it was always going to be good."

Sankofa Cafe, the popular restaurant and bookstore owned by Howard University professor Haile Gerima and his wife, has replaced the Energize Smoothie stand outside of The PunchOut. The stand will be run by employees of the actual restaurant and bookstore that is located on Georgia Avenue.

With Sankofa's original location being so convenient, Mann says she would have preferred another ‘grab and go' spot in its place.

"I appreciate Sankofa being there," Mann said. "However we could have put something else there. It could have been a mini-mart where we could buy breakfast sandwiches, wraps, small salads and run without a long wait. Howard is all about convenience."
