As Shake Shack joined the DC Community in May, students were packing up and abandoning the city for the long awaited summer hiatus. However, school is back in session and the franchise is excited about its new home and the plethora of students that fill the streets and classrooms of Washington.

"It's exciting for us to be in DC," Zach Koff, director of operations for the Mid-Atlantic Region, said. "Its fun for us to welcome students back to school."

Shake Shack is a modern day burger stand, which has expanded from one cart instillation in the middle of Madison Square Park to an indoor franchise that dominates New York. The Shake Shack specific burger, hot dog, and frozen custard can also be found in Miami, Westport, Conn.., Dubai, Kuwait, and now their newest restaurant in Dupont Circle.

"We were looking at DC for a long time and I think anytime we go into a city or think about a city, we really try to think about communities that we can contribute too--so we can add something to the dialogue," Koff said. "DC itself is just such a cool city of amazingly distinct areas. We were stoked to find a great location in Dupont, because that itself is such a vibrant and growing community."

In September, ‘The Shack" is offering an ‘after shool special,' where students with a valid college student id will receive a complimentary cup of their frozen custard. Their September flavors are wide ranging including: Chocolate Banana, Red Velvet Cake, Thin Mint and Coffee and Donuts.

"Coffee and Donuts is by far my favorite flavor. Made with coffee custard and fresh glazed donuts—that's breakfast right there," Koff said.

Shake Shack takes pride in supporting local bakeries and includes the finest local ingredients to make their food.

"I really enjoyed the Shake Shack!  I am super excited about the new free custard promotion for college students," said Krystyna Braxton, junior broadcast journalism major. "College is a lot of work, so something as small as free custard is a great way to take your mind off of the hustle and bustle of school."
