Day 1: The Love Café

What better way to start your Valentine's Day festivities than with brunch at the Love Café located at 1501 U Street, NW? This cozy café described as "quaint," and "charming," by Victoria Iworah, junior marketing major offers an array of beverages ranging from fruit smoothies to Espressos.

"The atmosphere is very relaxing. It's like a secret getaway for you and your boo" Iworah said.

Aside from entrees that include hot, cold, and breakfast sandwiches, soups, and salads, The Love Café offers an assortment of baked goods; the most notable being their cake slices and cupcakes provided by their sister-store Cake Love.

"They have great music, great food and amazing cupcakes! My favorite is the Amaretto cupcake" Iworah said. "I love the strawberry and cream cake slice from the Love Café" said Candace Andrade, junior economics major. "It tops cakes from almost all of the bakeries I've been to so far."

The Love Café is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 11p.m. on Friday and Saturday. "It's at a convenient location, just a few blocks away from campus; perfect for an after class date" said Troy White, junior management major. "I like the Love Café because of it's serene environment that makes for good conversation."

Day 2: Get a Little Closer to Your Past

On the second day of Valentine's week give your true love (or maybe just your boo love) a fun, yet cultural experience by visiting one of the many museums in and around the city.

There are over 50 museums in the D.C. area, including the 19 museums of the Smithsonian Institute (all of which, are free!). A trip to the museum offers you and your date an opportunity to learn about each other and at the same time learn about your collective history.

In honor of Black History Month, the National Geographic Museum is hosting the America: I AM exhibit, honoring 500 years of African American contributions to American society. On display are over 200 artifacts, including the dungeon doors of the Cape Coast Castle in Ghana, where African people were held before they were transported across the Atlantic for slavery.  Tickets are $10 for students and the exhibit is open daily from now until May 1.

Day 3: The Newseum

Day 3: The Newseum Bring amusement to your Valentine's Day celebration with a trip to Washington D.C.'s most interactive museum, the Newseum, a museum that lets you explore what it is to be a journalist, according to www.newseum.org. Take advantage of the rich history and boundless entertainment that the Newseum has to offer by means of its exhibits, theatres, programs and games.

"My favorite part was when they showed a sports documentary about how sports journalists captured different historical sporting events," Maurice Simpkins, a junior business management major, said. "They even have games where youcan pretend you're a journalist and figure out how to get a story and

who to interview, and another where you act as a news reporter in front of a green screen."

Located at 55 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W., the Newseum features galleries covering the topics of natural disasters, the story of news, the September 11 attacks and China's Berlin Wall, among others. This month only, people can visit www.newseum.org to print out the "Love me Tender Coupon," allowing you to purchase one adult general admission ticket at $21.95 and get the second one free. The Newseum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Day 4: Ice Skate in the Park

This weekend is bound to be a warm one, so why not take your date out for a classic day in the park.

Along the National Mall at 7th Street and Constitution Avenue, the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden's Ice Skating Rink is open Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

For just $6.00 per person (with student ID) you and your valentine can share a kiss in the middle of the rink, while small children and their parents slip and fall at your feet. If getting out on the ice isn't your thing, just grab a cup of hot cocoa in the Skating Pavilion Café, located right outside of the rink.

Day 5: Fondue Your Way Into Your Boo's Heart

Dip your toes (well, forks) into a cheesy or chocolaty pond of love over a cute, light dinner at the Melting Pot.

At The Melting Pot, located at  1220 19th Street NW, meals consist of chunks of assorted meats that you and your date can dip into hot pots of melted cheese or chocolate. For Valentine's Day, the Melting Pot invites you to "Stir Things Up" and  enjoy a full meal for around $70

DAY 6: DC's Hop-On-Hop-Off Double Decker Bus Tour

Venture outside of Howard's campus and take a trip on D.C.'s Hop-On-Hop Off Double Decker Bus Tour with your special someone. Stopping at more than 25 sites throughout the city, the Hop-On-Hop-Off bus offers a two-day unlimited use ticket for $34.95 a person.

According to dctours.us, this tour will allow you to see some of D.C.'s historic and entertaining sites in about two and a half hours. If you come across a place that you are interested in, you can hop off the bus to explore and hop back on anytime between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Buses come every half hour, so you don't have to worry about finding a way back from any of the sites that you decide to get off at.
