Fashion, Trends and Fun in the Trunk

The Trunk Show and Fashion Show were a success, bringing together students campus wide.

Last Wednesday afternoon, several hundred students followed the sound of music and made their way to The Yard for the carnival and trunk show events for Springfest. As the warm and sunny weather permitted, students dressed in their trendy springtime attire and stopped at various vending tables to browse merchandise while socializing.

The event, hosted by UGSA, gave Howard University students the opportunity to support and view different brands of vendors such as Crème of Nature, Majix Real Foundation, Milk and Honey and Yung Fly Wealth. Students were able to purchase hair products, natural bath salts, yoni eggs and urban clothing.
“I am so amazed by my talented classmates,” said Ivana Thornton, a junior health management major. “There are so many creative people, and here, they get the opportunity to show their creativity through their brands.”
One of those creative vendors was Brand Iceolation, whose logo featured a black skeleton wearing a Native American headdress.
“Our logo is the representation of the blood, sweat and tears of the blacks and Native Americans upon which this land was built on,” said John Pope, one of the brand’s founders. “We’re taking back the money from those who do not deserve it. We represent the counter culture.”
Victor Ehienulo, a senior information systems major, presented fashions at the trunk show. Ehienulo uses fashion as a way to bring a variety of cultures together.
“Chez Kevito is a brand that brings Africa to you through urban sweaters and clothing with African print that is tailored and fitted to you,” Ehienulo said. “We have African prints from all over Africa and necklaces that are vintage and rare. This is the best of Africa at a good price.”
Although the trunk show is an opportunity for students to buy merchandise, this year’s trunk show had some surprises including a five minute fashion show.
Clad in black and white gowns and tuxedos, models like sophomore Kelah Cash turned heads as they walked The Yard displaying the formal dress attire for the annual Howard University Bison Ball (which will be held on April 25).
“I love when Springfest comes around,” Cash said. “Personally, I love the fun and flirty attitude we get to channel during the fashion show. Modeling is life!”
Contrary to the typical display of fashion, seated at one vendor table were the co-founders and representatives of the newly released BAE app.
“BAE stands for before anyone else, and this is us trying to help you find that one person or a date,” said Brian Gerrard, co-founder of the BAE app. “Howard is the best place to launch this app, as it is one of the best schools in the nation and it is filled with trendsetters.”
For junior english major, Tameka Amado, attending the trunk show was an opportunity to spend the day basking in the presence of fellow Bison and good vibes.
“It’s crazy, and I love it,” Amado said. “This is the best part of spring at Howard because everyone is together.”

Where do I find the Chez Kevito sweaters? I really love collecting odd, crazy and unique sweaters! I usually get all mine from getonfleek.com but I’m always open to other stores!
